Toddlers don&rsquo;t frequently take off on their own, particularly not in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cafemom.com\/parenting\/211663-tired-moms-night-time-lapse-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">middle of the night<\/a>, but a pair of Maryland children apparently did just that on May 6, 2026. Baltimore police found a boy and a girl, both nonverbal, in the middle of the night and desperately needed help identifying them. Luckily for them, the police found a parent that same day, but the story has many people wondering <a href=\"https:\/\/cafemom.com\/news\/mom-allegedly-making-drug-deal-kids-died-house-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how this happened<\/a>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The children were found together.<\/strong><\/h2><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmhellgren%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0wHkGcnY8BE3tcbMFzURtoDXPKDSnVhD1g762gEjWZCKkH2r2mXkgApAfJB8x2Ncul&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"715\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><p>According to <em>People, <\/em>the Baltimore Police Department reported <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/two-nonverbal-kids-found-alone-middle-of-the-night-parent-located-11967991\">finding the children<\/a> in the 3400 block of Lyndale Avenue around 3 a.m. May 6. The boy appeared to be between 3 and 4 years old. The little girl looked about 2. Emergency responders took the children to a hospital for evaluation. Police shared photos in a since-deleted social media post asking for help identifying the children.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Police located a responsible person not long after finding the children.<\/strong><\/h2><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmhellgren%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0wHkGcnY8BE3tcbMFzURtoDXPKDSnVhD1g762gEjWZCKkH2r2mXkgApAfJB8x2Ncul&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"715\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><p>A spokesperson reportedly told Instagram user Eric Johnson, who posts as @ericjaystreetnews, that police found a parent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYBKqozHQcN\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==\">around 5:30 a.m.<\/a> the same day. Police did not state whether any charges had been or would be filed but confirmed the situation &ldquo;continues to be an open and active investigation.&rdquo;<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The story has left many people asking questions.<\/strong><\/h2><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpermalink.php%3Fstory_fbid%3Dpfbid0E5FGQb9K6XjuVwWbCdkrNgE6iDdTSq4bsCEohptoSrXoJ8fowSfgft8ZGnNEJMvyl%26id%3D61576804924715&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"802\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><p>Commenters on Johnson&rsquo;s post want to know how the children got outside alone and what the parents&rsquo; excuse is.<\/p><p>&ldquo;They look well taken care of, but watch they gonna ask about those knots on his forehead,&rdquo; one commenter suggested.<\/p><p>Another person questioned why it seems so many special needs children exist in our world right now. &ldquo;Why are they nonverbal? Why is everybody&rsquo;s child mentally ill these days??&rdquo; the person asked.<\/p><p>Others wholeheartedly believe these kids saw an opportunity and took it. They were in pajamas and seemed both clean and well-kempt. Several people gave the parents the benefit of the doubt.<\/p><p>&ldquo;Look well taken care of. Have to child proof the house especially with special needs kids,&rdquo; a commenter suggested. &ldquo;Hopefully they&rsquo;ll be with their family again soon look how happy they are.&rdquo;<\/p><p>&ldquo;Yall need to start child proofing yall doors and locks if you have small children,&rdquo; another person wrote.<\/p><p>Some people think that if the parents don&rsquo;t take these kids more seriously, this situation could repeat itself in no time.<\/p><p>&ldquo;Their parents were located and when I saw the pictures I said these 2 little houdinis will do it again,&rdquo; someone else commented.<\/p><p>We have to agree. These kids did not appear abused or neglected by the photos, but something went wrong at their residence. If they&rsquo;re just too quick, then additional child-proofing is an excellent idea.
